Arise and Shine

Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. For darkness shall over the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise upon you, and his glory will appear over you. Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn,” (Isa 60:1-4, NRSV).

The same passage, in the Living Bible version says, "Arise, my people! Let your light shine for all the nations to see! For the glory of the Lord is streaming from you. Darkness as black as night shall cover all the peoples of the earth, but the glory of the Lord will shine from you.  All nations will come to your light; mighty kings will come to see the glory of the Lord upon you,” (Isa 60:1-3, TLB).

According to this passage and many other passages throughout the word of God. The world will get darker and darker, if the scripture says “Darkness shall over the earth, and thick darkness the peoples;” that means this darkness covers all nations, it is global. Every tongue, every tribe, people, and nation will be affected by this darkness. Yet in the midst of all this darkness, God decided to give hope to the world by shining forth His glorious light through and upon His people, the believers.

Therefore as children of God, God wants us to arise and shine His light to the world. the Lord Jesus says, “You are the light of the world,’ and continues and said, ‘Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven,” (Matt 5:14, 16, and 17, NIV).

For the believers, this responsibility, which is to shine forth the glory of the Lord to the world is not a suggestion but a command, to go into all the world and preach the good news.  “For this is what the Lord has commanded us: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned.” (Mark 16:15-16, NKJV).

And the blessed Lord Jesus said, “...this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Matt 24:14-15 Cf. Mark 13:10, NIV).  Precious one, who do you think is assigned to this task? You are right, the believers, the sons and daughters of God, and you are one of them. Proverbs 11:30 says, “he who wins souls is wise,” and Daniel 12:3 says, “Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who turn many to righteousness will shine like stars forever,” (Prov. 11:30, NLT). Well, let us arise and shine the glory and the power of God to this dark world while we have time and the opportunity.
